January 1997

1997 is now upon us, so happy new year - I hope ye all have a good one :) Ahh, a new year a new challenge.... ahem.

Here is some news just in from our able madman (only kidding) Kozzey..

On New Year's Eve, our Merkin friend and infamous loiterer, avey became the #acorn channel hero. The channel was invaded by a somewhat rude Scotsman whos only vocabulary seemed to be the many types of F and C and B words. We all held back from kicking him out of the channel as in the good spirit of the impending new year we thought we'd have a laugh and wind this guy up a little. Eventually though, the situation got boring, so as the worlds most powerful nation, Merkinland, we bestowed the honor of letting avey kick the offending person out of #acorn. And boy did she kick him in style. Done like a true lady. Three cheers for avey, our new channel hero. May your Dandilions and Tulips never wither.

More news from Kozzey :

I recently bought a new Iomega Jaz Drive. It's an internal device running via a Morley Cached SCSI card. There's a lot of confusion of over how to use these 1GB beaties on the Acorn. Having just gone through the major hassle of fitting one to my Risc PC 600, I thought I'd share the following with every incase anyone was considering to use one of these devices in their own Risc PC. There is just a few things you need to do for smooth operation and they are :

  1. Make sure the package comes with the Iomega Toolbox CD ROM for Zip/Jaz.
  2. If it does then take the CD and install the software on a PC under Windows3.11/DOS/Win95/NT/OS2Warp or put it on a Mac. On the PC, I'd suggest using DOS. After installation, simply type C: where C: denotes the drive name of your Jaz drive (i.e it could be e:) and then type cd english, cd dosstuff and then enter reclaim. Your Jaz cartridge is now unlocked and can be safely formatted by your Acorn SCSI card software.

Happy Jaz'ing. Hope it works if you get one. It's a pain to setup, but once it's going it's just like another hard disk, as fast as one will ever get on the current top end Acorn and it's a quiet little beastie to! :-) A thousand floppies in your pocket.... nice :-)
